One of the last resort treatments for hemorrhoids is a hemorrhoidectomy, which is a surgical procedure to remove hemorrhoids.  Since it is a surgical procedure, it is performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery time takes about two weeks, after which general improvement of the condition is seen.  In a few cases, hemorrhoids may come back after a surgery.
