Enlarged liver, also called hepatomegaly, occurs when there is an increased in the size of the liver. Whatever the cause, an increase in the size of the liver is usually not felt by the patient. An enlarged liver is commonly detected by a physical exam conducted by a physician.

The liver is an essential organ of the digestive system that helps in the digestive process while also carrying out other important functions such as bile producer, cleaning toxins from alcohol and drugs, and maintaining proper cholesterol and fat levels in the body.
