Our heart is one of the major organs in our body that plays a very important role in our system thus; heart care must always be taken seriously. The heart functions to pump blood all throughout our body through our circulatory system. It supplies our tissues with proper amount of oxygen and nutrients needed to get rid of our body’s wastes including carbon dioxide. This constant supply of nutrients is also needed by the tissues in order to be in active functions. If our heart fails to do this role, our organs and tissues will stop functioning and our body will shut down.

Common Heart Diseases and Symptoms

There are different kinds of heart diseases that a person could suffer from. Without proper heart care and attention to our heart’s health, these diseases could easily affect us causing serious health problems and even death.

• Heart attack
This is very common to aging people, but these days, because of the kind of lifestyle and poor eating habits, even younger people suffer from this.

– Chest pains, discomfort, feeling of heaviness or pressure, pain in the arm
– Discomfort on the back area, throat, and jaw
– Feeling bloated, indigestion
– Sweating, dizziness, nausea and vomiting
– Shortness of breath and irregular or rapid heartbeat
– Weakness and anxiety

• Congenital Heart Disease
This is a type of heart disease that is acquired at birth, or inborn. Children who suffer from this usually have to go through surgery at a very young age.

– Cyanosis or the bluish marks on fingernails, lips, and skin area
– Poor appetite and panting
– Poor weight gain
– Lung infections
– Weakness and inability to perform physical activities

• Cardiomyopathy (Heart Muscle Disease)
A progressive heart condition wherein the size of the heart is enlarged, become stiff, or thickened abnormally resulting to a weak function in pumping the blood. This condition can cause heart failure and abnormal beating.

– Chest pressure and pains that typically occurs after a physical activity or after eating
– Swelling of some parts of the lower body
– Weakness or fatigue
– Palpitations

• Cardiomegaly (Enlarged Heart)
This is typically caused by underlying diseases such as coronary artery diseases or high blood pressure. The function of the heart to pump blood weakens that leads to heart failure. If not treated and maintained through proper heart care and medication, this condition can aggravate.

• Heart Murmurs
Some heart murmurs don’t require treatment as it will not affect one’s health. This type of murmurs is called the innocent murmurs which is an effect of the blood that flows through the valves that are healthy. However, when the blood flows through a broken or damaged valve, it could cause abnormal heart murmurs. If you are not sure about the type of murmur you are suffering from, it is important that you consult a heart doctor and have yourself examined.

Most heart medications are very expensive and contain chemicals-based drug that have negative side effects in our body. These home remedies listed below have been proven effective in heart care and with no serious side effects. If any of these will not completely help you with your heart condition, these could at least help you with your heart care regimen in order to keep your heart healthy and well-functioning.

1. Bilberry

This fruit is highly effective in treating different kinds of conditions in our body. These days bilberry can be bought commercially in capsule form. This berry may look similar to blue berry but this one is better in promoting proper blood circulation and helps your heart to function better. Aside from using this for heart care, this can also be used to treat skin problems, eye strain, menstrual cramps, and diarrhea.

2. Grapefruit

The juice of grapefruit is excellent for the heart. You can buy the grape fruit juice in supermarkets or you can prepare your own fresh juice by extracting several grapefruits. Consuming this helps you in weight management which also helps in making your heart healthier.

3. Fenugreek Seeds

This herb has been used during the time of ancient Egypt as a form of medicine. Fenugreek seed is pound until powdered form is produced. The powdered form can be mixed with drinks to help prevent heart ailments, lowering blood cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and helps cure digestive problems.

4. Cayenne

This popular spice that makes good tasting food is also excellent in maintaining a healthy heart. This chilly tasting spice has a substance called capsaicin which promotes the elasticity of the blood vessels. It helps in reducing the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood and minimizes formation of blood clot. Cayenne is an excellent spice for your cardiovascular system because it maintains healthy blood pressure level.

5. Garlic

This is considered to be one of the healthiest herbs because of its numerous health benefits. Not only it has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial effects, but it also helps your body combat other diseases like high blood cholesterol. By simply consuming at least one clove of garlic per day gives you a better blood circulation, excellent platelet count, and a healthier heart.

6. Ginger

Ginger contains compounds that help prevent blood clotting thus improving the circulation of your blood all throughout your body and lower the levels of bad cholesterol. Ginger is also known to be an excellent anti-flatulence remedy.

Doing physical exercises on a regular basis that is just suited for your body is a good way for a healthy heart care. Discovering a good exercise routine together with a healthy balanced diet helps you manage your weight and avoid obesity. Children are also highly encouraged to do regular exercise especially in this age of modern technology and gadget where some children aren’t exposed much to playtime and physical activities outside of your home. Remember that these days, heart ailments are also becoming common in children.

When our body is active, blood circulates properly throughout the body making the function of the heart healthier together with the other major organs of the body. Moreover, regular exercise burns excess fat which makes us healthier and feeling better.
