Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids is a condition in the areas of your rectum and anus where the veins become swollen causing some parts to protrude in a manner that can give you great discomfort and sometimes pain particularly when you poop. Sometimes it could even cause bleeding particularly during constipation. Hemorrhoids can either be internal or external depending on the area of your rectum where it develops.

Mild hemorrhoids will normally subside in a couple of weeks, but the stubborn ones or the more serious may need surgical procedures to remove. Hemorrhoids are not serious or life threatening. It could be unnoticed depending on your tolerance for discomfort and pain.

Symptoms:

– Pain, discomfort, and itchiness around the areas of your anus and rectum
– Some blood discharge on your feces
– Bumpy texture or bulging skin around the rectal and anal area

When rectal bleeding becomes serious, it would require seeking immediate attention from a doctor as it could be caused by other diseases such as colon polyps, Chron’s disease, colitis, etc.

Causes:

The increased pressure in the rectal area stretches the veins that cause it to swell and bulge.
This increased in pressure can be due to the following:
– Sitting for prolonged period of time
– Straining during bowel movements due to constipation or bowel irregularities
– Diarrhea
– Obesity
– Pregnancy and straining or extreme pressure when giving birth
– Anal intercourse
– Diet that is low in fiber

Hemorrhoid is not a serious case and can be treated but sometimes, in rare instances when it becomes severe, it could cause complications such as:
– Anemia from blood loss
– Strangulated hemorrhoid particularly the internal ones when the blood supply is cut off. This will cause extreme pain.
