Hemorrhoids is a condition in the areas of your rectum and anus where the veins become swollen causing some parts to protrude in a manner that can give you great discomfort and sometimes pain particularly when you poop. Sometimes it could even cause bleeding particularly during constipation. Hemorrhoids can either be internal or external depending on the area of your rectum where it develops.

Mild hemorrhoids will normally subside in a couple of weeks, but the stubborn ones or the more serious may need surgical procedures to remove. Hemorrhoids are not serious or life threatening. It could be unnoticed depending on your tolerance for discomfort and pain.

– Pain, discomfort, and itchiness around the areas of your anus and rectum
– Some blood discharge on your feces
– Bumpy texture or bulging skin around the rectal and anal area

When rectal bleeding becomes serious, it would require seeking immediate attention from a doctor as it could be caused by other diseases such as colon polyps, Chron’s disease, colitis, etc.

The increased pressure in the rectal area stretches the veins that cause it to swell and bulge.
This increased in pressure can be due to the following:
– Sitting for prolonged period of time
– Straining during bowel movements due to constipation or bowel irregularities
– Diarrhea
– Obesity
– Pregnancy and straining or extreme pressure when giving birth
– Anal intercourse
– Diet that is low in fiber

Hemorrhoid is not a serious case and can be treated but sometimes, in rare instances when it becomes severe, it could cause complications such as:
– Anemia from blood loss
– Strangulated hemorrhoid particularly the internal ones when the blood supply is cut off. This will cause extreme pain.

Home Remedies to Help Treat Hemorrhoids and Get Rid of Its Symptoms

If you suffer from hemorrhoids and its symptoms of discomfort and pain, do not fret, as there are available home remedies for this condition that can be found outright in your home. These are safer options than the store-bought medication and no serious side effects on your body.

1. Dipping in a warm bath or sitz bath

A warm bath could provide relaxation not only on the inflamed part of your body but also to the other parts of the body. Warm bath relaxes your blood vessels. If you prefer to just bath the inflamed area, you may do so by doing a sitz bath. Make sure to prepare heated water that your body could tolerate. Sitz bath is a shallow bath you can prepare using a pan where you can sit comfortably. This helps cleanses your perenium and the anal area. Sitz bath is used for hygienic purposes but it can also alleviate irritation, itching, and discomfort on the genitals and rectal area. This helps heal hemorrhoid symptoms faster together with other medications.

2. Eating fiber rich food and drinking plenty of water

Dehydration and lack of fiber in the digestive system contributes to the development and aggravation of hemorrhoids. The lack of fiber in food consumption leads to constipation or stool that is hard and very difficult to discharge. Straining during constipation stretches your veins in the rectum causing to swell and protrude. Dehydration on the other hand causes dryness and leads to rectal bleeding.

Make sure to eat foods that are rich in fiber such as mango, avocado, green leafy vegetables, and more. You can also take fiber supplements that are derived from natural ingredients. Fiber would not be as effective if you don’t drink it with enough water so make it a habit to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day or even more.

3. Witch Hazel

The extracts of this flowering plant is effective in reducing the pain caused by hemorrhoids. It also helps in getting rid of the itching sensation as well as the bleeding. Just apply a small amount of the extracted witch hazel on the hemorrhoid itself and also on the surrounding area.

5. Aloe Vera

The gel of this plant contains anti-inflammatory effects that could help get rid of hemorrhoids. This is also good whether your hemorrhoid is external or internal. For external condition, just wash the plant and cut a stripe of aloe vera and remove the thorns. Put it in the freezer to allow it to cool then apply it on the inflamed area like an ice compress. This will soothe the itching feeling, relieves the pain and discomfort, and helps heal the condition faster. For external hemorrhoids, simply cut out an aloe vera and gather the gel and apply directly on the inflamed part.

6. Lemon Juice with honey

Juice extracted from the lemon fruit combined with pure raw honey has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits. You can make a tea by combining these two for a soothing and refreshing feeling. You can also use pure extracted lemon juice and some honey and apply it directly on the affected area by dabbing a piece of cotton.

Treating your condition with this oil mixture on a regular basis will show great results in a shorter period of time, continued use can help cure the hemorrhoids completely.

8. Olive oil

The anti-inflammatory benefits from olive oil will help relax the inflamed area that causes you great discomfort and pain. This also relieves the itching sensation and eventually cures hemorrhoids through daily application. Aside from relaxing your blood vessels and stop it from swelling, olive oil also helps in increasing your blood vessel’s elasticity which makes the condition easier to manage particularly during constipation. The monosaturated fatty acids found in olive oil are the active ingredients that help you deal with your condition.

9. Psyllium husk

If you are taking fiber supplements, you may notice that the active ingredient present in these supplements is the psyllium husk. This ingredient is found in the husks of the plant seeds of Plantago ovata. Psyllium husk is a fiber that is used as a form of laxative.

Taking this will ensure prevention from constipation and will keep your anal area moist so your hemorrhoids will not aggravate. Aside from treating hemorrhoids, this form of fiber is very helpful for your body’s overall health.
