A mole is a small, dark brown spot on the skin that is caused by clusters of pigmented cells. It is generally harmless and commonly appears during childhood. In general, a person can have 15 to 40 moles all over the body, with almost every single mole appearing before the age of 40.  Most moles are permanent, while some may disappear as the skin ages.

Often, moles are brownish to black in color. They can also be flat, rounded, rough or smooth, with some even growing hairs. Although generally harmless, there are some cases wherein the mole becomes cancerous.

Some moles can develop Melanoma, which is an aggressive skin cancer that can lead to death without proper treatment. Melanoma commonly appears as large and dark moles that are also fast growing. Most of the time, these moles are inflamed, itchy, red in color and have the potential to bleed.

As a precaution for people with a lot of moles, it is always recommended to avoid the sun’s harmful UV rays. If exposure is unavoidable, there are many effective ways to minimize the sun’s effects which include wearing protective clothes, using high SPF sunblock, and staying in the shade especially during hours when the sun is at its strongest.


Although moles are usually brown or dark brown, they can come in various shapes and colors. Below are some of the most common mole symptoms:

  • Skin spots that are colored black, brown, red, blue, pink and red
  • Skin spots that can be smooth, rough, round, oval, flat or raised.
  • Skin spots that are usually 6 millimeters in size.

Moles can develop in any part of the body including armpit, back, scalp and nail. If you are bothered or concerned about your mole, it is recommended to see a doctor for a proper check-up. Seeking professional help is also advised when the mole causes pain, itching, burning sensation, grows back after removal, and keeps on growing.


The primary cause of moles is the clustering of skin cells called melanocytes, which are distributed all over the skin. Melanocytes produce melanin, which is the reason for your skin’s color.

Natural Home Remedies for Mole

As stated earlier, most moles are harmless and are best left alone. However, there are cases wherein a mole can affect confidence and self-esteem especially when the color becomes too dark or red, or too big and noticeable. Fortunately, there are effective ways to minimize or lessen the size and appearance of your moles. These methods are all natural and can be done in the comfort of your home.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Considered as a very versatile natural ingredient for treating various skin issues, Apple Cider Vinegar is also effective in minimizing the appearance and size of moles. It contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that are perfect for inflamed moles. With regular use, the mole will eventually scab and peel, resulting to a more flat and smaller mole.

Dab a cotton swab in Apple Cider Vinegar and directly apply on the moles. Make sure to leave for a few hours before rinsing off with running water. To get maximum results, do these steps before going to bed and leave overnight. Wash with running water in the morning. You can also use a small cloth to cover the affected area.

In the first few days of this process, the mole will probably become bigger, redder and inflamed. These are normal reactions as the acids in the Apple Cider Vinegar begin to induce scabbing and peeling. After a few days, the mole will subside as a new layer of skin develops. To prevent scarring, avoid touching and intentionally peeling the affected area.

2. Garlic

Garlic contains powerful enzymes that minimize the development of pigment-producing cells. In addition, garlic is perfect for lightening any skin pigmentation. It also provides soothing and calming effects for inflamed skin tags.

Cut a small fresh garlic into very tiny pieces. Directly apply on the areas with moles. Use a soft cloth or bandage to secure the garlic. Leave for a few hours before removing. To get the maximum effect, leave overnight and wash off with running water immediately after waking up.

Another option is to liquefy the garlic using a powerful blender. Pour the garlic extracts in a small container and dab a small cotton ball. Apply liberally on the affected area and leave for a few hours. You can use gauge or plaster to secure the cotton ball.

3. Pineapple Juice

Pineapple is loaded with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that help treat inflamed moles and lighten skin pigmentation

Cut a small fresh pineapple into tiny cube pieces. Apply directly on the affected area and leave for a few hours. Wash off with running water. Do these steps at least 3 times a day, morning, noon and night. You can also use natural pineapple juice sold in local supermarkets. Make sure to buy natural pineapple juice with no added preservatives or harmful chemicals that can cause other skin problems.

4. Honey

Like ACV, honey is also a universal natural ingredient that treats various types of skin conditions including moles. Honey is packed with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that help minimize the appearance of large moles. It is also perfect against skin scarring and lightens dark moles.

Dab a cotton swab in all natural raw honey and apply to affected area. Leave for several hours before rinsing. You can also use a soft cotton or gauge to secure and prevent the honey from dripping. Do these steps every day for several weeks. After several days, you will gradually see the effects as large moles become less noticeable while the pigmentations become lighter.

5. Castor Oil

Castor oil is discutient, which means that it promotes the elimination of pathological accumulation. It works by minimizing the appearance of skin tags such as warts and moles. It also provides soothing and calming effects for inflamed skin tags. Although it usually takes time before noticeable effects take place, this natural ingredient is still a safe and proven treatment for all forms of skin tags.


Dab a cotton swab on high quality and all natural castor oil. Apply directly on the affected area. Leave for a few hours before washing off. Also, apply before going to bed and leave overnight. Use a bandage or soft cloth to secure during sleeping.  Do these steps every day for several weeks.

6. Baking Soda

Aside from castor oil, baking soda is also a proven home remedy against skin tags. It has been used for numerous years for treating and preventing varies skin problems such as acne, warts, allergies and moles. Baking soda may be too strong for super sensitive skin so doing a small test before having full application is a must. If you notice any allergic reaction such as redness or stinging sensation, stop immediately.

Mix 1 teaspoon of high-quality baking soda with a cup of lukewarm water. Stir well. You can also add a teaspoon of castor oil, honey and few drop of lemon to maximize the effects. Makes sure that the mixture has a creamy texture before applying directly to the affected area. Secure the cream by using a bandage or soft cloth. Leave for several hours before rinsing off. Do these steps once or twice a day.
