Skin Chafing

Chafing develops when the skin is irritated due to repeated friction against the skin of multiple body parts or other objects. The repeated contact causes redness, pain, and itchiness. Skin chafing commonly occurs in the inner thighs, stomach, nipples and armpits.

• Skin chafing can be caused by dehydration, which makes the skin extra dry. Dehydration can be due to high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. These health issues cause the body to lose essential fluids that maintain proper hydration level.
• Excessive sweat that does not evaporate properly can get trapped in fit clothing, thus developing skin chafing in the inner thighs, stomach, and armpits.
• Skin dryness can also develop skin chafing. When the skin is unable to produce enough sebum to maintain moisture, the skin becomes excessively dry and prone to chafing.
• Chafing can also be due to an allergic reaction to chemicals in cleaning agents such as soap, laundry detergents or bleach. Chemicals found in perfumes and cosmetics can also lead to chafing.

• Pain on the affected area especially when pressure is applied
• Redness on the affected area
• Itchiness and swelling on the affected area

Natural Home Remedies for Skin Chafing

Skin chafing can be easily treated at home by natural methods using natural ingredients. Here are some of the most efficient home remedies.

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a potent natural ingredient that is very popular in treating various forms of skin diseases and issues. It is loaded with powerful substances that are extremely beneficial to the skin such as vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties. It also provides natural moisturizing and soothing effects, which make it one of the most highly demanded natural cures for skin chaffing.

Get 5 to 10 large aloe Vera leaves and cut in half. Extract the juice to a container. Make sure that the leaves are fresh and the container is clean. Apply liberally on the skin area affected by chafing. Leave for a few hours before washing off with running water. To strengthen the effects, wrap a gauge or soft cotton on the affected area after application to prevent contact with skin or other objects.

To improve soothing and cooling effects of aloe Vera on irritated skin, cool it for about 10 minutes in a refrigerator before applying. The extra cold will provide immediate comfort especially when pain and itchiness are felt.

Aside from applying topically, you can also drink commercially made aloe Vera drinks available in supermarkets and drugstores. Make sure to buy brands that are made from natural aloe Vera extracts. Avoid brands that contain sugar or added preservatives.

Let the oil penetrate the skin for a few hours before rinsing off with water or wet wipes. To minimize the sticky sensation or prevent contacting other objects, cover the affected area with a soft cloth or gauge.

When buying commercially made coconut oil, make sure to choose brands with 100% natural coconut oil content. Always look at the expiration date to ensure that the product is fresh and suitable for application or consumption. You can also opt for virgin coconut oil.

In addition to using topically, you can also consume coconut oil by mixing with your favorite drinks like coffee or tea. Mix 1 tablespoon of coconut oil with your morning coffee or any of your favorite blended shakes as a snack. You can also take 1 teaspoon of coconut oil in the morning on an empty stomach.
